How to Give your Mom the Absolute Best Feeling this Mother’s Day

“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.” – Jessica Lange

Does this quote hit home for anyone else?

Our moms deserve more than we can ever give them. While Mother’s Day is basically (or should be) every single day of the year, May the 14th exists as an official day of pampering. A specific day of thanks for the remarkable person who brought us into this world and raised us.

Or even if she did not carry you in her belly for nine months. Whether she did or did not put up with your tantrums for years. Has woken up in the middle of the night countless times to a call from you because adulting is so much harder than anyone could have prepared for. Though, she most likely told you that though because mothers know everything.

Whether she has been a part of your life forever, or has just met you, or watches over you today.

Whoever your mother figure is, and wherever she is, this day is for her!

Now to get to the whole, “How can I ever show her how much I care?!”

You can’t.

But you will put the effort into it anyhow because it will still be amazing and worth it!

Not sure what your mom wants? For Mother's Day, can't go wrong with sleep and food.

We believe everyone is happiest when they are in bed. You know that feeling? The, “just woke up and my bed is the most comfortable thing on the planet” feeling?

We want to bottle that up and give it to all the moms out there, all day long.

Follow along with us on how to make that happen! Or as close as possible, anyway. Just a few steps and your mom will feel like the queen she is.

1. BREAKFAST IN BED

The classic standard, but it could not leave it out! To smell fresh ground and brewed coffee before your eyes are open is heaven on earth.

And BACON. Can’t forget the bacon.

Of course, it depends on what the queen likes and doesn’t. The wrestle between savory or sweet in the morning can be such a difficult choice. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, or hazelnut French toast with whipped cream and honey drizzle?! The struggle is real.

But here is a recipe from the Food Network for you we promise will make her morning unforgettable. And delicious. We’re sharing something more on the easy side that you can prepare the night before! To make the day a little bit easier for you.

Slow-Cooker Overnight Breakfast Casserole

INGREDIENTS: Nonstick cooking spray, 1 (12.3-oz) box frozen waffles, quartered, 6 oz precooked sausage links, cut into thirds, ¼ lb(s) sliced ham, chopped, 1 cup shredded Cheddar, 1 bunch scallions, sliced, white and greens parts separated, 1 red bell pepper, chopped, 4 slices Swiss cheese (about 3 oz, or the whole package if you love cheese as much as I do), 6 large egg yolks, 2 cups half-and-half, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, Kosher or pink Himalayan salt and freshly ground black pepper, hot sauce!

DIRECTIONS:

1. Coat the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Toss the waffles, sausage, ham, Cheddar, scallion whites and bell pepper together in a slow cooker. Lay the Swiss cheese over the mixture.

2. Whisk together the egg yolks, half-and-half, flour, 1 tablespoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a medium bowl. Pour over the waffle mixture. Cover and cook until the custard is set, 7 to 8 hours on low. Uncover, sprinkle with the reserved scallion greens and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve with hot sauce if you’d like!

What does your mom want the most on her special day? Sleep!
  •           A little something extra – Add a side of bacon. Did I say that already? But also, bring her a legitimate crown to wear all day so she truly feels like a queen. From personal experience, she may laugh her head off and think it’s the silliest thing. Then, she’ll wear it and be embarrassed but excited at the same time.

2. A CARE PACKAGE OF HER FAVORITE THINGS

Including but not limited to: candles, movies she can watch in bed (happy ones), and favorite books to read in bed. Plus, a bouquet of her favorite flowers! All things she can enjoy while in bed since she will not be leaving bed all day except for trips to the bathroom.

  •           A little something extra–a bouquet of her favorite flowers in every room. Another personal experience that was a huge win! She still talks about how she could not imagine how she would enter yet another room gasp in surprise with yet another bouquet of roses and their aroma. She cried happy tears at the end.
Leaving notes around the house will make your mom smile.

3. LOVE NOTES AROUND THE HOUSE

When she leaves her bed for her eventual trip to the bathroom, have a specific memory of you two together that will fill her up with love and joy stuck to the mirror. Or written right on the mirror with a cheap lipstick. If you don’t think you can put your personal feelings into words yourself, quotes are always great too!

Here’s a few of our favorites:

“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” – Maya Angelou

“A mother’s arms are more comforting than anyone else’s.” – Princess Diana

“Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.” – Stevie Wonder

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” – Robert Munsch

“The best place to cry is on a mother’s arms.” – Jodi Picoult

Now, for the rest of the house. Even though she may not see them until the next day if she follows the rules of the day for not leaving her bed, put them in inconspicuous spots. You know your mom better than anyone else so that part is up to you. Though for a few suggestions: on her steering wheel, coffee cream, inside her day planner, or on the television remote.

4. CLEAN THE HOUSE

Whether she does the cleaning herself, she will be appreciative all the same! Perhaps she has been meaning to get the carpets cleaned for quite some time but never gets around to it. Or the inside of the fridge needs a good, thorough wash.

Knock her socks off as cringe-worthy as it may be for you. Maybe don’t vacuum though if she is sleeping.

Does the Princess Bride make your mom happy? Watch it with her!

5. PEDICURE TIME

Does anybody not love a good pedicure?! Even if it’s not the whole massage, cuticle shaping, and whatnot because feet are gross. A simple painting of the toenails would be an amazing thing to do for her while she watches The Princess Bride for the hundredth time.

  • A little something extra – This list nails it for feel-good movies if you’re stumped.

6. LET HER ONLINE SHOP

Buy her a pre-paid VISA and let her splurge on herself. Is your mom the person who never treats herself? Will always bless the other people in her life with gifts, but only buy things of necessity for herself? Do not let her buy a new vacuum or oil change.

Instead, steer her toward a relaxation massage or a brand-new pair of shoes. Something for her and only her to enjoy.

7. WINE

Sipping on wine or mimosas while she mouths the words along with Inigo Montoya and having her toes painted, at the same time. Heaven? We believe so.

If she is more of a beer person, get her a case of her favorite beer instead! Or make her Caesars!

What makes your mom smile? Probably watching Dirty Dancing with her.

Does she not drink alcohol?

Shirley temples all day! Chai Frappuccino!

Again, you know your mom. You’ll figure out something delightful for her to enjoy.

8. ORDER SKIP THE DISHES

You’ve had a long day! As wonderful as your mom is, we reckon you deserve a break now. Pedicures, fridge-cleaning, and playing bartender can take a lot out of a person!

So, time to relax and order her favorite takeout. Crawl into bed with her (if you haven’t been all day already) to watch Dirty Dancing for the 500th time.
