Once territory for indigenous Huron and Iroquois groups, the sparsely settled area that would become Brampton saw settlement in the 1800s, when a few lots next to a local tavern were parcelled out and called ‘Brampton’.  Brampton town would be founded in 1853. It’s first focus would be on growing flowers for sale, hence its nickname, ‘Flower Town’ (later upgraded to ‘Flower City’). Brampton was small and humble for many years, but by the mid-20th century Brampton’s population took off! It took only five decades to grow its population tenfold to almost 600,000 people. That’s the third-largest city in the GTA!

Brampton also has manufacturers in food and beverages, robotics, steel, and auto parts. Brampton’s biggest advantage is its transportation. Like Toronto, Brampton weather is hot and humid in the summer, and mild and snowy in the winter, as it gets precipitation off Lake Ontario.
